Heritage House

Another garden which, like the Ryans', has new owners is Heritage House, once owned by Maxine Daly. The entry to her garden was a cleared woods of spruces underplanted with a large collection of rhodendrons. In the sunny center of the circular driveway, we designed a silver circle of beachy perennials: santolina, dianthus, artemesia, lavenders. Hidden behind the house was what she called the Cloister Garden, designed by local gardener Dale Browse. Within a white picket fence, an arboured garden seat clambered with pink roses, a stone bird bath converted to a planter, and a scramble of cottage flowers, all existed in a tiny world of their own.
