Beachfront Garden

A beachfront garden can be a challenge because of salt wind and blowing sand. Here, almost on the dunes, we made a garden within the owner's existing pathway plan, of ornamental grasses, sedums, and other wind-tolerant perennials. A hedge of escallonia has held up well and protects the property garden from walkers who stray from a nearby path. Our favourite book about creating a beachfront garden is Derek Jarman's Garden.
