Andersen's RV Park is a magnet for funloving RVers, who arrive in caravans led by a "wagon master" and have marvellous potlucks in the clubhouse known as Payson Hall. Pocket gardens are placed throughout the park. A large box by the highway is stuffed with colourful flowers. A hedge of Rosa Rugosa 'Alba' runs along the entry road. By the garden shed, a perennial border peaks in early summer with Siberian Iris, Achillea 'Coronation Gold', Artemisia 'Powis Castle', Lavatera, Hollyhocks, Godetia, Salvia viridis, and Cosmos. Surrounding the owners' house is a white picket fence garden with roses, sweet peas, perennials and annuals. The amazing "hand-painted rose" called 'Eyepaint' is near the door to the office. Pink rambling roses scramble over a cabin. The south side of Payson Hall has three large planters in mostly primary colours. The newest garden is one we created in winter of 2001: a border on the west side of the house planted with beach-wind tolerant plants in a theme of owner Lorna's favourite colours: peaches and salmons. The friendly managers keep the gardens watered between our weekly visits, and one secret garden can be discovered behind a manager's RV. |
